This week is National Volunteer Week. In 2015 Lt. Governor Cox announced that for the past nine consecutive years, Utah has ranked as the number one volunteering state in the nation! This shows how generous the people of Utah are and that they are committed to strengthening their community. Volunteeringinamerica.gov published these statistics about Utah in their most recent 2014 report:
- 46% of residents volunteer, ranking them 1st among the 50 states and Washington, DC.
- 953,990 volunteers
- 91.7 volunteer hours per capita
- 193.7 million hours of service
- $4.5 billion of service contributed
- 68% of residents donate $25 or more to charity
For mid-sized cities throughout the United States Provo ranked #1 for volunteerism with 52.2 percent of adults volunteering! We at Community Health Connect feel so blessed to live here where so many people are willing and waiting for the opportunity to volunteer for our organization and others. They bless the lives of so many people in our community. If you would like to find out about more opportunities to volunteer in Utah County, United Way is a good place to start. If you go to their website at https://www.unitedwayuc.org/ you can search for opportunities that match your interests, talents, and abilities. Let’s continue to make Utah a great place to live by volunteering and strengthening the communities where we live!
